Looked at your to-do list lately? If you’re anything like me, it’s a too-long list of things you may never get to. One of those things might be staying on top of your business’s social media accounts. With new platforms emerging faster than you may be able to learn them, I totally understand why your Instagram feed is getting stale or why your monthly newsletter has become a quarterly one. But I cannot express enough how vital social media marketing is to your business in an age where most people are scrolling through their accounts for hours a day. I know your schedule is already jam-packed, so I have some helpful tips on how you can create an effective social media workflow without feeling bogged down. 

1. CREATE A PLAN

In order to best leverage social media to market your business, you need to have a high-level plan. When planning, you want to prioritize your audience. Who are they? What channels are they using? What kind of content makes them stop scrolling? It may not be the best use of your time to target Boomers on TikTok, or Gen-Z on Pinterest. It’s important you think through this before devoting resources to platforms that aren’t viewed by your customers. After all, the best content will get you nowhere if it’s not being seen by the right people.

2. BRAINSTORM CONTENT CATEGORIES

Thinking about what type of content you want to include in your social media posts will save a lot of time when you actually sit down to create it. For example, will you highlight clients each month? Post testimonials? Give insights into the personal lives of your team members? Create a long list of potential content ideas and then stick to them, so you don’t have to spend an extra second as you create this content for publishing. While you’re brainstorming content, also brainstorm hashtags you may use on your posts. Put them in a document so you can simply copy and paste them into your posts.

3. BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT YOUR TIME WHEN CREATING COPY

Maybe you have a marketing team that is creating the posts and writing copy on all of your social media channels or more than likely, you are doing it yourself. Pick a regular time, whether daily, weekly, or monthly, and block it out to create your social media. Be intentional about putting it on your calendar and actually sitting down to do it during that block of time.

4. BUILD YOUR SOCIAL IN BULK

We recommend building out at least a week, but better yet, a month at a time. If you have a well-thought-out plan and have brainstormed content categories, building out your social media ahead of time will cut down on the time you spend writing the copy and building the posts. If you have previously created templates that you can utilize each month, all you will need to change out are the visuals and quickly rewrite the copy. This will allow someone else to lay eyes on your creatives all at once to ensure there are no errors. You want your social media to be error-free when your audience sees it!
